GUANO APES: Elephant Tales Gone Wrong

December 22, 2002

Germany's GUANO APES filmed the video clip to their new single, "You Can't Stop Me", at the famous William Circus in Berlin in early December. However, the shoot didn't go entirely smoothly, according to the group's official web site.

"Besides the four [members of the group], an elephant was supposed to play a special main role [in the video]," reads a message on the site. "To this end, they engaged an elephant of another circus. What no one knew: the two circus families have been estranged for decades, loathing and detesting each other. Just as the 'elephant truck' rolled onto the circus grounds, father William and his four sons took the offensive. It took a great deal of trouble calming down the circus director. At times, it looked as if the whole shot had to be cancelled, for the owner of the elephant, too, now joined in the argument, threatening to attack them physically... Accompanied by shouts of protest and threats of violence, 'Benjamin Blümchen' was finally transported back, and his role in the clip was cancelled. Nevertheless, besides a cool live performance, 'our stars in the arena' also have a few tricks up their sleeve."

"You Can't Stop Me" is due to be released on Jan. 13, 2003. An exclusive world premiere of the video will take place via the group's web site (www.guanoapes.org) beginning on Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. The band's as-yet-untitled third full-length album is due in February.
